Details
CTS deliver the pre requisite nationally recognised training units of competency for appointment to a statutory supervisor position under the W.A WHS (mines) regulations 2022. The 2 units:
BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management; and
BSBWHS411 Implement and monitor WHS policies, procedures and programs ;
have been contextualised for this course, to cover the skills and knowledge required by a statutory supervisor to meet their Schedule 26(3) duties, particularly task based risk management for their workgroup.
This course ensures that students are aware of their Statutory Supervisor role in ensuring that foreseeable hazards are identified, assessed, and controlled (using appropriate control measures drawn from the higher levels of the Hierarchy of Control). The ongoing monitoring and reviewing of controls and the cycle of risk management depends on ongoing discussions and consultation with workers ensuring tasks are completed without incident. Statutory Supervisors are the people that get others home safe and well, so the new legislation is elevating the position in status to ensure we do this more effectively as we deal with new and inexperienced people.
The learning and assessment conducted during this course is specifically focused on the knowledge and performance required by the 2 units.
This course is completely separate from the legislation examination pre requisite for a statutory supervisor. While the course does make extensive reference to the legislation and offers students the opportunity to become familiar with the legislation, it is not an “exam preparation course”.
We briefly discuss the Legislation exam and refer students to the Mines Statutory Positions Portal, and the associated LGIRS help videos.
For students wishing to specifically prepare for the Legislation exam CTS offers a Legislation Exam preparation for statutory positions.
