About the course

Develop the knowledge and skills to apply Safety and Health legislation. This course teaches you relevant skills on how to be a meaningful Safety Officer, provide leadership, have some responsibility for the output of others and provide guidance to others.

This qualification is advertised on the Jobs & Skills website as Fee Free in 23.   However, Jobs & Skills WA will not fund you if you wish to study fully online.  You must attend classroom training to access the Fee Free in 23 funding.

Fee Free Places are limited and subject to Job & Skills funding rules.  



Classroom Days

We offer classrooms each month.  Depending on numbers different venues are used.  These are available to enrolled CTS students free of charge.  Please advise us by email that you are attending or book online.

Each month we will focus on a different unit.

Details and duration

Delivered via flexible learning with 10 units for completion. 12 months to complete all units (up to 36 months for a part time traineeship). Occupational Health and Safety Officer (Level 4) is available via a training contract. CTS can adjust the training to suit the individual’s need and their workplace.



Typical learning objectives
  • Assist with workplace compliance for WHS laws and the organisation's fulfilment of consultation and participation processes
  • Contribute to the company's WHS risk management and system implementation, and workplace incident response
  • Conduct and present research analysis
  • Assist with managing compliance of contractors
Nationally Recognised Enrolments
We will not enrol you in a Nationally Recognised Qualification without checking first that:
  • You meet the entry requirements
  • You know the cost
  • It is a qualification, skill set, unit of competence that is appropriate for you
  • You are aware of what resources you will need to successfully participate
  • You understand the amount of learning required and how you will be assessed

Methods of delivery

  • Online learning and assessment options are available.
  • Face to face support sessions held at Bunbury for enrolled students. 
  • Students will need to be employed in an industry or role that will support evidence collection and workplace skill implementation.
  • Units will need to be supported in the workplace through skill demonstration and practical application.
  • Students should have access to relevant policies, procedures, systems and/or documentation related to the qualification throughout the term of the qualification.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available. 


All candidates have the full support of their trainer who will be in regular contact via phone, email, skype, Zoom or face to face scheduled appointments in the workplace and at our training rooms.

Fees

The student tuition fees are indicative only and are subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Additional fees may apply such as student service and resource fees. 



A full breakdown of fees will be provided prior to commencement once unit selections have been made. Eligible candidates will be charged as per the Fees and Charges set by the current WA VET Fees and Charges Policy.

A subsidy may be available through the Building Construction Fund for eligible candidates.


Fee for Service 2023 - Bunbury 
  • Tuition Fees: WHS units $300 per unit, Leadership units $350 per unit
  • Resource Fees: $11.00 per unit 
  • Credit Transfer: $0.00
  • If trainer is requested to travel outside the Bunbury area to meet with student additional costs will apply.    

New Worker Traineeships 2023
  • Tuition Fees: Fee FREE in 23
  • Credit Transfer: $0.00

Existing Workers - non traineeships

  • Tuition Fees: Fee FREE in 23 if you attend classes in Bunbury.
Depending on units selected you may be required to purchase text books.

NB. Students will be required to obtain their own books from our provided booklist (direct from the supplier) dependent on some electives.
